How To Make Double Pinch Pleat Curtain Headings | JF Academy

Are you looking to learn how to make double pinch pleat curtain headings? Well look no further! We collaborated with local soft furnishings professional Louise, from The Cotswold Sewing School, to show you just this.

This simple step by step guide on how to make a double pinch pleat curtain heading shows how easy it can be to create this style in your own home. To start this make, a single pleat base is needed; check out our how to pleat curtains guide to get started. For this make, we used the Cheeky Monkey Linen fabric in the Multi colourway.

What You Will Need

What You Will Need

For this step by step guide you will need:

  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Fabric
  • Scissors
  • Tape Measure
  • Sewing Machine
Step 1

Step 1

Every double pinch pleat on your curtain heading starts as a single pleat. We've made a full guide on how to pleat curtains, so we suggest following that before proceeding.
Step 2

Step 2

To start, smooth your pleat down so it has an even amount of fabric either side of the central point.
Step 3

Step 3

Next, push down along the centre point of the pleat and bring the edges to meet.
Step 4

Step 4

Press the pleat together and work down the curtain until you find where the buckram finishes. This is the point that you'll now stitch to hold the pinch pleat in place.
Step 5

Step 5

Put your double threaded needle in just below the buckram and just below the top of the pleat as this will ensure the thread isn't visible. Make sure the needle goes through all of the layers and then come back through just next to the same point. Repeat this a few times and then create a few knots to tie it off. Finally, snip away the excess thread.
Step 6

Step 6

Next, the top of the pleat needs to be hand sewn to keep it secure. With double thread again, stab stitch up from the back of the curtain through all of the layers on one side of the double pinch pleat and the needle will come out at the pleat's centre point.
Step 7

Step 7

Then, come back down through all the layers on the other side of the pleat with the same stitch. Repeat these steps one more time and then tie off with a few knots, snipping away any excess thread as you go.
Step 8

Step 8

Now, follow the same steps again with the rest of your pleats along your curtain heading.
