How To Make Fabric Flowers

Use up your fabric scraps and transform your offcuts into beautiful, fabric flowers.

This easy, 7 step how-to craft is perfect for beginners and an excellent sewing project to do to give your home a touch of Spring. Whether you use them to complete your little one’s nursery, give as a gift for Valentine’s Day or to add a Spring décor into your home, this simple fabric flowers craft is just for you.  

For this tutorial, we used Strawberry Thief Minor Ochre for a classic, arts and crafts style but any craft fabric would be ideal for this project. Take a closer look at our craft fabrics here.

  • Craft fabric 

  • Thread and a needle 

  • An Iron 

  • Button

Firstly, cut six circles with a diameter of 12 cm from your fabrics, these will form your petals.

Then, fold one of the circles inwards into quarters and press with an iron.

Next, sew a running stitch along the curved edge and pull the thread to gather the fabric.

Repeat the last two steps for all your circles, using the same thread.

Now, tie the ends of the threads together tightly.

Then, cut a circle out that’s big enough to cover the middle hole on the back of the flower and sew the circle in place over the hole.

Next, find a button big enough to cover the front hole and sew it in place.
